PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM (PEI PNP)

Prospective immigrants who meet the requirements of the program may be awarded a Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Certificate, following which they may apply to the Government of Canada for permanent residence in Canada.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was established in 2001 with the goal of bringing and keeping in the province more immigrants who could help with the province's economic and labour market demands as well as promote economic growth.

The PEI PNP draws immigrants who are likely to settle on the island and have the education, training, and skills needed. The province has been able to welcome more immigrants since the PNP was implemented.

In Canada, PEI has the highest rate of immigration per resident. Prior to the pandemic, its immigration rate was 1.6%, compared to the national average of 0.9%. As a percentage of its total population, the province has Canada's largest newcomer inflow.
