  • Ensure you meet the other eligibility criteria.

THE PROCESS

Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skill Select with information about your preferred occupation, skills, and qualifications. Skill Select will calculate your points score and rank you against other prospective migrants. More information about EOIs is available, including invitation rounds and occupation ceilings.

You will be invited to apply for the visa if you are ranked high enough and there are openings in your nominated occupation. If you are invited, you will have 60 days to apply for a visa.

OCCUPATION

Your occupation must be on the list of qualified skilled occupations. You must have a skills evaluation that demonstrates you have the necessary skills and qualifications to work in that occupation

POINTS SCORE

You must be able to meet the points requirement specified in your invitation letter. This score will be 65 points or higher (as of July 1, 2018). The information in your EOI is used to calculate your invitation letter score.

When you are invited to apply for the visa, you must be able to meet the points score eligibility.

Check to see how many points you might receive.
Anyone who wishes to be invited to apply for a visa must first submit an EOI. When you submit your EOI, it will be compared to other prospective applicants, and you may be invited to apply for the visa (your EOI will stay in the pool for up to 2 years). Submitting an EOI is free of charge.

CAN I APPLY IN AUSTRALIA OR OVERSEAS ?

When you submit your EOI, you can be in or out of Australia. When applying for a Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa, you can be in Australia or abroad.

If your current visa is denied or cancelled, you may be unable to apply for the 189 visa while in Australia.
